Not reading back, but I can see Roald Dahl got lots of mentions, great storyteller. My son enjoyed Peter Pan, and The Hobbit.

Roald Dahl, I still read his books now.

Going Solo is my personal favourite like, but I still dig the kids books, even now.

The Gruffalo is awesome for kids too.

What about this gem?

I love Roald Dahl's stories, and my kids are being brought up on them too. My eldest loves Matilda, younger daughter prefers George's Marvellous Medicine, and the boys share my love for the Enormous Crocodile! Secret plans and clever tricks...

Always liked the Narnia books as a kid as well.

There are loads of good books around for young kids at the moment, my kids have all liked the Blue Kangaroo books and anything by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler.

Matilda
Charlie books - chocolate factory and glass elevator.
The BFG
The Twits
The Witches (more so the film)
James and the Giant Peach

Great memories of my early reading years

I used to read a lot of Enid Blyton when I was a kid as well, especially the Mallory Towers series. There was a woman who could tell a story. Also Sue Townsend 's Adrian Mole series were essential reading. Another blast from the past that I used to read a lot of as a kid is Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone's create your own adventure series, where you had to turn to a different page depending upon which course of action you took.

I used to read something similar to those create your own adventure books as well - there was a robin hood one in the library near our house that I absolutely loved! My eldest has some Dr Who ones now too

The Jolly Postman (for five year olds)

basically this postman visits all these fairy tale characters, really good

I loved The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe. Bought all the others in the series over the years, but none were a patch on it.

Also, loved the "Adventure" books; African Adventure, South Sea Adventure, etc etc. They were ace. Oh, Jennings & Derbyshire were cool, and not forgetting Biggles!

Great memories.
