Kettlebell Training

Seem to be all the rage atm. Just a fad, or legitimately improved training method?

Did someone mention kettlebells?

Not a fad. Get on it. Requires use of many core muscles, and strengthens all over. I've even managed to get the missus involved, which is a minor miracle.

Functional!

Not a fan of his technique. This might be more appropriate the top heavy muscle men, but those swings would knacker most people's lower backs up. Seems to be working with some seriously heavy weights there too.

I know the video is just showing the different types of exercises you can do with kettlebells but I don't think it's a great advert for them tbh.

I did have a kettle that whistled, but that was years ago

the one I've got now just has light that goes off when it's boiled, but a bell's a good idea too I suppose

Not a fad but you can do the same things with other pieces of equipment. Kettlebells are more comfortable and give you a nicer form for certain exercises though

Try doing that for 20 minutes a day and you'll have no lower back or wrist joints left.

I don't know much about weightlifting/exercise, but I do know about basic body physics like anyone else does. Extremely stupid idea.

I'm not sure what this fella in the vid is trying to prove. He looks like he's got 2 x 20lb kettlebells at least there, that's not your average ones.

The DVD I use is effectively a cardio programme, and the kettlebells add a bit of resistance to make you work harder. There is only two exercises (bicep and tricep curl) which I would say are 100% muscle-building. All the exercises use the kettlebell as a counterbalance, so there's no danger of wrecking your back if you do it properly.

Key word is properly I guess - that video though, if you do it like that, welcome to Serious Injury Land.

What DVD do you use?

Kettlercise: Just For Women.

Believe me, it ain't just for women. Focusses on cardio type exercises, but with the right weight, it's a great workout and really builds the muscles up too.
Hmmm any good for fat burning?

I had a routine of my own, intervals mixing, sit ups, push ups, planking with kettle bell lifts, squats etc. saw good muscle build but no 'fat' burning. Only way for that would be an hour a day on my bike, but that's not do able currently...

Absolutely, this DVD is fully intended for fat burning. A lot of squat-based exercises, side bends etc, plus it's got an 8 min abs programme as well which is brutal. It has 20 min and 60 min routines but I find the 60 min one a bit boring so do the 20 mins a couple of times a week. Really good results.
