Sharpys top lip

Player Valuation: £60m
Iv been thinkinng a lot over the last few days about the debarkle that going on at GP. My biggest worry is the transfers (or lack of). And iv not been able to come to an conclusion. Is it......

We have no money??

Moyes is dithering in the market again??

Clubs not wanting to sell to us??

Not offering enough money again??

Iv come up with a theory. When moyes took over from smith. He was left with one of the worst teams in are history. He kept us up by the skin of our teeth. Moyes then went about bringing new players in. But these were players in and aroud us, or teams from below us.

It was never top players from top teams. Even now are best players are cahill(millwall), Lescott (wolves), Howard (Utd bench) even Arteta was not really wanted. Thing is now were trying to get to the next level an were going for top players from big clubs.

So is Bill an Dave out of the depth? Are they struggling to negotiate with the big clubs?. Is Moyes struggling to sell the club to the top players? It was fine when it was a step up for the players. But now these players want champions league an the big money. More likley in my eyes it's kenwright not being able to get deals done with thelikes of spoting an CSKA.

Look when we bought Yakubu. That went on for weeks an nearly never happend. An that was only Boro' an 11.25m now were talking top european sides an 15m+ deals.

So i ask, do you think they are out of their depth??

I doubt it, we'll wait and see.

The season hasn't even started yet and we have 17 days to get players in. Judge when where properely equipped for the season.

No. Get a grip.

Fifth place and a fourth place on a tiny budget and Moyes is out of his depth?

It's not that he's struggling to sell the club, Moutinho has indicated he is happy to move here. If you are looking for a scapegpoat Moyes is not the man.

I think it boils down to having little money and trying to spread it to thin. Were trying to spread the money over several players but are not offering enough up front so clubs are telling us where to go

I was asking is he out of his depth with the big player signings? Not about managing everton, i know were we finished mate. He was able to buy players from lower devisions. Is he finding it hard now it's top players from top clubs?

The question is just on transfers.

It's only a thought.

But where is all this money we get from finishing 5th, qualifying for Europe etc going?? This topic really wrangles with me. How can Villa, Spurs and Portsmouth.... Infact lets re-phrase that... How can every other premier league club spend money on players yet we appear to be incapable of attracting anyone at this moment in time??

That's what I think. We can get players. Its just the players Moyes wants seem to be just out of reach of what the club can afford eg Moutinho.

I say its one of two things -- We have no money or Moyes is dithering.

But then again, we did have an £14mill offer for Moutinho turned down (or was the fee lower?). Either way, if we didnt have it, we wouldnt bid. So maybe money is there.

Moyes isnt out of his depth. Kenwright is at the moment. He's trying to get gold by paying silver which aint going to cut it for a top 4 team.

Anyway...Spurs will end up 4th unless them implode at some part of the season I think. No matter who we get in, they're the team to beat or match on paper.

I think Kenwright is out of his league. He's essentially admitted it himself.

Moyes, over the course of his tenure, has demonstrated both a survivor's ability to steer through the bad times and a winner's vision to improve the club when things are stable.

I'd love to see what he could do with real financial muscle and management ability backing him. There is only so far he can go with the limitations as they appear to exist.

What you said.

I reckon Everton are scared to make that next big step and bring in 20+mil players in just in case it dosent work out and we put the club in debt because these players arent performing.

When you look at it beattie 6m Johnson 8m Yak 11m when we started buying big they where all players from the premiership in struggling clubs that wanted to leave anyway so were easy targets for us.

I just think there are people at Everton who have'nt got the bottle to go out to Europe and spend big in case it dosent work out for us they would just rather stay in this comfort zone we have now.

But how long will that last with every club around us spending big for next season we just need to go out spend big on these players and take a chance on it.

And if it dosent work so what we had a go at the big time it never worked out lets just start again and learn from our mistakes. But on the other hand it could bring back rewards like the UEFA cup which in my mind after last season should be the main reason why we are bringing these type of players in.

Completely agree, like has been said its not that players dont want to come, the likes of Smith, Moutinhio, Manny and M'bia(conflicting tho it is) have said they want to come but their clubs arent up for selling.

From my mind there are only 2 reasons a club wont sell, either they desperately need the players or the money isnt good enough. I'm not sayin we haven't got cash but clearly we need to make some of them an offer they can't refuse.

If lack of money is our issue then surely we only have 2 options, offer more to get the players we desperately need in and give in on some top targets (i.e. like moyes has said quality not quantity), or just get bodies in to ride us through to the next window. I know which i'd rather happen. Of course we could always just refuse to pay high prices for top players and not get poor ones in, but surely Moyes and Kenwright arent that stubborn?

Fair enough, apologies if I seemed to overreact, I just don't see this being Moyes' responsibility.

Being being stuck all the way over in Australia and spending half my nights pressing refresh on the internet, certain we must be signing someone soon, is sending me nuts.

To my mind we know the cost of these players, we either have the cash, in which case splash it, or possibly we have next to bugger all which is my real fear.

So like i said in the first post, it must be down to kenwright. I really do think he's out of his depth. Don't think he knows how to close these big deals.

Moyes is the best thing at are club in my eyes. I just wish he would make his mind up qiuicker.

Think we're over egging ourselves here lads. How many players leave top Champions League clubs to join sides lower down the league?

I generally read the 'dithering' by Moyes as him being prudent with our cash. You only have to look at the players we've sold over the years. I wonder if Sheffield feel they got value from Beattie, or Birmingham from McFadden? I suspect the same will be the case with Fulham and AJ. These clubs splash the cash and give offers we can't refuse, and generally as a result pay over the odds.

You don't have to look too far back in our history to see teams littered with big names like Dacourt, Bilic and Materazzi. All fine players but they didn't deliver half the success we've had under Moyes. Players have to fit in with the team, both on and off the pitch, so it would appear sensible to me to do your due diligence on a player, both professionally and personally, before bringing him in. Even more so when you have limited funds so can't afford to make too many mistakes. He went silly in our CL season and got burnt by Kroldrup et al, I doubt he wants to make those same mistakes again.

Sure things are being cut fine and we'd all love to have some great new players but we all must appreciate the fickle nature of fans and that if we sign someone that turns into a duffer (especially an expensive duffer) they'll be thousands on his back about it. Heck, many on here were popping at Yakubu last season calling him fat and lazy and god knows what else. Many of the same were fearing his exit when he failed to come back from ANC on time.

I guess the moral of the story is, in the words of Michael Winner, calm down dear. Leave the managing to the manager and get on with the supporting.

The club employ an agent to meet with the selling club and player to negotiate on our behalf. It's been widely reported that Pini Zahavi is acting on our behalf and he is the best know and most successful football agent in the world so i don't think that he is out of his depth in negotiations.
