That's very sad, he's been ill for a while, not many names left now from my childhood days, which makes me feel a bit old. RIP Doddy.

Went to see him a few years back at Llandudno. I didn't realise that his shows were almost all-nighters. About halfway through the show, he says: "I love playing at Llandudno, it has the most beautiful sunrises... Give it half hour and you'll see for yourself".
Went the doctors and told him I have difficulty urinating. He said, "Does your penis burn?" I said. "I've no idea, I've never tried setting it on fire".

despite his well known parsimony (particulaly with regard to the Taxman, who could blame him for that) he was extremely generous of spirit. He took a 500 mile round trip from his Southampton show to attend Bill Dean's funeral here on Merseyside almost 20 years ago - got to the funeral, attended and then was driven back South.
