Karens

Karen is what happens when a society allows customer service values to become cultural values generalized for application well beyond the market sphere.

It's the same mechanism by which so many in the USA have interpreted the temporary minor inconvenience of wearing a mask in public as a grievous threat to individual liberty.

I honestly reckon some of them are suffering mental or physical health problems. So much anger and stress there, just get the sense they are deeply unhappy and they take it out on others. Some are just rotters though.
As someone who works in customer service, they're just generally a-holes who think they can behave anyway they like with no recourse or consequence. We as a society have allowed this sense of entitlement to happen and societal issues are growing bigger because of people like karen.

Oh mate, feel your pain there. Used to do 'internal customer services', essentially sorting orders and repairs out for depots of the same company. Unbelievable the way folk talked to us.

Weirdly I understood it sometimes though. We were bound by policies, processes and procedures. Many of which were nonsense. So by doing my job, which was nonsense, I was really frustrating someone who was in turn being harangued by his customer.

One of my mates used to work for a large outdoors equipment chain. The tricks folk used to pull to get a discount was Unbelievable. Cutting holes in tents caught on CCTV, crying to the manager he'd been 'unhelpful' by not giving the discount demanded (thus rendering it a no profit sale).

Both ultimately revolve around people. Which is the problem lol
