If, as fans, we ever wanted to test the ‘new’ Everton mentality, one that holds no fear, that is imbued with self-belief and which, importantly, treats our neighbours as nothing special, then we could have asked for no greater challenge than the weekend’s Derby.

Well writ. However we only dropped one point with that fluke, not three. Makes me feel slightly better about it.

We carry a curse, they benefit from their pact with Satan. I'm not a believer, not I'm i spiritual not superstitious, but I'd happily contribute to hiring a priest to break these hexes.

worst part is having to listen to the kopites, even their barbs they usually throw seem a bit off, definitely rattled them in the game but the finish gives them all the ammunition they need grrrrrrr

Good write-up but I think the manner of losing is more significant than a mere point lost.

There are the individual games against them and the wider context of what is, and let's be honest here, a shameful and humiliating record of continuous failure against them which threatens to take on a momentum of its own, if it hasn't already.

Our derby record simply cannot go on as it has been for a single game longer. Enough is enough and that has to be the attitude from Moshiri down. Silva and the current squad inherit this issue and pressure, faultless though he and many of them are, because their predecessors allowed it to come to this.

It's embarrassing and an insult to all of the great players and fans that went before. We are better than this.

One victory alone will not be enough but it's the only medicine that will allow us compete in future derbies and rid us of the psychological burden.

The immediate task is to put it behind us and get back to winning games but I'm focused on March already - beating them at GP may go a significant way to ensuring they are out of the title race. They probably got a fright on Sunday but yet again we didn't strike a blow and they regard us as nothing, I want them to hate us and hate us good, at the moment we are merely an object of easy ridicule for them.

I was hugely encouraged by the performance but we simply have to turn up and score more than they do and stop being the victim.

I was fuming but there is light at the end of the tunnel, this is the best Everton team in a long long time and the future is very bright. Don’t be surprised if we take Spurs place over the coming few years... watch this space

Not if the players, management etc all are pulling in the same direction. If they're all confident in the same way of playing, that we will get results, it shouldn't be an issue.

We lost due to an individual mistake. We didn't lose because they were better than us. that is the key factor here and one that Silva, I'm sure, will have plugged home this week.

We now need to react and hopefully that comes tomorrow. A game so quickly is a good thing, in terms of putting the derby behind us, but it's going to be a tough one anyway because of how Newcastle would play. Whatever happened in the derby, it was always tomorrow's game that counted in terms of our objective for the season. Sunday was a free hit.

Totally agree with all of that mate, apart from you saying you want them to hate us, we badly need to do them at the old lady in March. We need to get the monkey off our back with no wins in 18 asap, but if you didn't think they hated us and treat us as irrelevant just look at there reaction to the lucky winner on Sunday, you'd have thought they had won the league, they do hate us but I think we hate them more;)

I liked the sentiment of the article and it's nice thinking to dismiss this game as just another three points but it's so much more than that. These are the games you remember when the season is done. To go as long as we have without a win against Liverpool can't be brushed under the carpet. It's not good enough and needs sorting in the next game against them.

We probably need to win the next ten derbies to even come close to balancing things out but right now I'd settle for one.

'Just another 3 points' indeed -- unless we end the season 1 point out of a European spot and the RS win the PL by 1 point.

Well written.
But just now I would like to beat them in their own back yard .
Just for starters mind.
Let's now concentrate on a good league finish and push on in the FA cup
