roydo

in memoriam - 1965-2024
Just announced he has retired from international rugby. No real surprise, but fair play to him. 4 World Cups, 2 finals, one win, 2 Lions tours, more points than practically anyone, and all achieved with about 1 third of his career on the injury list!

Not bad IMO

He wasn't very creative but he was good defensively and could hoof it for miles.

*Moyes hears of this and tries to get him on loan*

I think it is unfair to say he was only a goal kicker. He would always put in a shift and do a lot of defensive duties. In fact this is what probably shortened his career though periodic injury.

I hear this a lot that he was good in defence. He may have been of course, but defence isn't really a standout quality I look for in a fly-half. I want them to create tries, score a few themselves etc. He only got 6 tries I think in 91 games, which is pretty poor.

That's not to take away from the guy. His dedication and approach to the game put many others to shame, and you get the feeling he made the most of what he had, I just think the media have over-egged his standing in the game because he was an excellent goal kicker.

Yeah but I liked neville as a DM last year, so what do you expect.
