I joined 20 years ago, nearly matched someone once. The Lad I joined for was the son of someone my dad knew. I never met him, he was 18 and died.

The girl in the pic below died, her little brother needs marrow.

Apparently all you do now is spit to get on the register. I had to give blood.

I'm not sure you even need a big needle to give marrow, the last time they spoke to me I think they could get it in some low key way. Anyway, if it gets to that stage, who's not going to be brave and take a little pain to save a life?

Good luck, think about it, try and be bothered in this can't be bothered world.

There's possibly someone out there whose life could be saved by someone on here, maybe not now, maybe in 10 or 20 years.

Just applied to join the register. Never given this much thought before but I suggest anyone on here in between 16-30 watches this video.

Even though you'll never know who it is your donation has helped, the life you save could be a young child, it could be a parent with children who'd lose their mum or dad, it could even be someone who's inspired by their recovery to go on and find a cure for whatever illness they had.

Brilliant thread mate.

Get on it lads, my brother in law (to be) just received bone marrow transplant. Luckily one of his sisters was a match which in itself was about 36-1 shot. Think randomly its about a million to one. He's still in a very bad way but all being well he will recover.

A girl who I work with, her brother has just had his bone marrow transplant. He was diagnosed with a very very rare form of leukaemia about 18 months ago.... It was so rare that the doctors didn't have a clue where to start.... He was in isolation for a few months.... Everything he ate or drank had to be fresh and any leftovers discarded immediately...he wasn't even allowed to open the windows in his room or even hug his own daughter as his immune system was so low any infection could have killed him. He has been receiving chemo for a while but when things seem to be going well his own cells start attacking him again and he becomes Ill...... He's basically been told this bone marrow transplant is his last chance... Heartbreaking for his family. As a kinda funny aside to this, his brother was found to be a match so decided he was going to get super fit so he could give the absolute best bone marrow he could ha ha... Anyway, he bought himself a road bike and all the gear to go with it.....only lat week he went out for an early morning ride and crashed his bike on a bend as the road was wet and slippy...... He's ended up breaking his collar bone and is laid up now lol.

I'm on the register and I urge anyone who fits the criteria to join - if my son needed a transplant i'd be begging for someone to save him, therefore, if i can save anyone then i'm more than willing!
