I think you'd be justified in calling him the greatest. No-one else managed to do what he did, and almost certainly no-one ever will.

I seem to remember he didn't look too healthy the last time they interviewed him on the F1
read loads of stories and saw a docu piece on Sky Sports with him a while back. Seemed a top guy and racing clearly ran through his veins. RIP.

A legend and a true racer. To be honest he was better with the bikes than with cars, his F1 title came due to reliability issues to the great Jim Clark and bad luck that struck Graham Hill.
However that shouldn't take away from what he achieved, he was the best in the world on a motorcycle and he could give the best drivers a run for their money. As others have mentioned no one else will win a championship on both 2 and 4 wheels and therefore he has a legitimate claim to be motorsports greatest ever sportsman.
