Sad news, great player. The story about Clough getting the Forest team to salute a log going down the River Trent after he went to Derby still makes me smile
Former Scotland, Nottingham Forest and Derby County winger John Robertson - once described by manager Brian Clough as "a Picasso of our game" - dies at the age of 72.
A really brilliant player in an age when fans could still see themselves in gifted mavericks like Robertson.
That Forest side was marvelous. They looked you in the eye and didn't blink. Their record against Paisley's Liverpool is testimony to that. As great as that Kopite side was, their fans were reduced to "Are you watching Nottingham" chants during those "great Anfied European nights" of the early 80s. Got right under their skins in ways maybe only Chelsea did 30 years later.
