John Lennon

Rereading this thread, its amazing for a man whose vision was so simple, elegant and singular how much petty argument gets stirred by his name.

As for Lennon, a man that did more to propagate the concept of peace in the popular conscious than any politician before or since (including Ghandi and Mandela) - a man who wrote give peace a chance and all you need is love - potentially funding the IRA?

I really don't know what to say to that other than shake my head and feel a bit sorry for you BBIMV.

He may have been sympathetic to the concept of reunification of Ireland. He wrote Luck of the Irish after all. But suggesting he financially supported the IRA is the height of idiocy.

All this after death worship is the last thing Lennon wanted, but maybe not Yoko. Whatever happened to the son he had woth Cynthia and where is she now. The forgotten Lennons.

Funny you mention that. I was watching old news footage of the night he died last evening, and every single commentator said he "left behind a wife and young child". What about Julian FFS?

Still not a fan of Yoko. I can't help being very cynical about her. Her death worship act of John is unseemly.

To be fair to BBIMV, an IRA man has recently written of his contacts with Lennon in the wake of Bloody Sunday and Lennon was onboard with doing some charity concerts organised by Republicans (although it has to be said that even this IRA feller made it plain that Lennon was not hostile to the NI Protestants).

we were talking about explicit funding of the IRA not charity gigs for the victims of Bloody Sunday. Massive difference.

And quite frankly if someone did turn up and say he did I wouldn't believe them.

It was obvious what he stood for.
