John Ebbrell has returned to Everton FC as an Academy coach.

The ex-Blues midfielder joins the pool of coaches who work with the club’s youth teams at Finch Farm.

Ebbrell returns to Goodison Park from Tranmere Rovers where his most recent post was Head of Academy Coaching.

The Everton favourite made over 250 appearances for the Toffees and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 1995.

Ebbrell came through the ranks at Everton and was with the first-team for 10 years before moving to Sheffield United.

The 45-year-old joins other former Blues, Kevin Sheedy, Duncan Ferguson and David Unsworth in the coaching staff.

Ebbrell made a total of 265 appearances for Everton and scored 19 goals before moving to Sheffield United.

However an ankle injury restricted him to just one appearance for the Yorkshire club before he was forced to retire in 1999.

Suffered from the "Lilleshall"tag John, neat and tidy but a bit lightweight,I recall all the players around the mid 1980's were tipping him to be the next big thing but through one thing or another he never quite set the world alight.
He was unlucky with injuries was john.
Him and joe Parkinson did us proud in the midfield

I have never booed an everton player but the closest I have came was earl Barrett and John ebbrell.

Ebrell was dire

Mate the games moved on from them days, the days of "get stuck into them, let them know your there" are well gone, I'm afraid them days are well and truly behind us more's the pity. And by the way Parkinson was the only good player out of them three.

Don't mean it like that. I mean that the good teams when they lose possession hunt in packs to regain it. Barca do it, Chelsea do it, etc. Parkinson was the best of the 3, but Horne and Ebbrell were much better players when Joe Royle was their manager than they were before that.
