Johan Cruyff has lung cancer?

Had the pleasure of watching him once when he was with the New York Cosmos, towards the end of his stellar playing career, but a joy to watch, a real artist with a football at his feet.

heard he was on about 40 a day, I used to smoke a little and honestly don't know how you can smoke that much every day, assuming you sleep you have to find the time to have a ciggy every 20 mins or so, anyway, a top player, a little underrated if anything these days, and did a fair bit as a manager, best wishes to him

lots of people have lung cancer, why should we suddenly care more cause he is famous?
But of course, I feel for him and my thoughts are with him and his family.

The post was blunt and maybe unnecessary ,but I sort of get the, why does celebrity make a difference, thing.
because we empathize with someone who has influenced us or is at least familar to us, particularly someone who has provided many good memories, not so much as we would do with a loved one, but more so than a complete stranger
