Not sure, but based on what Osman said yesterday on Football Focus, whereby a bookmaker questioned him, maybe they've outed him.

If it came out that they knew he was betting, regardless of the rules, then it would question their social-responsibility and ethical stance.
I'm just watching the Sunday Supplement here and it seems he had an account in his own name! Obviously some betting employee told someone who told someone else etc. Bit of a breach of confidentiality I would've thought but also a bit thick on Joeys part.

There was a funny case a while ago in Ireland where the bookies got screwed over on a Sunday League Amateur game. Basically a team had played n won away on a Friday night when one of the players went in to back a horse on Saturday n noticed all the prices for the games listed for Sunday up including his own game which had already been played on the Friday. Needless to say he told all his mates n they cleaned the place out for a good few grand.

Absolutely. Others are just far cleverer. I doubt its massive in the PL these days but certainly in the lower leagues it would be.
This from Kevin Thomson ex-Rangers, Hibs etc on his betting days at Middlesborough.

"Without being on first name terms with the woman behind the counter, we were there often with our Middlesbrough tracksuits on. It was hard not to know who we were."

No sympathy for him in terms of the ban. Broke the rules consistently for 10 years, and only getting punished now, so had the benefit of earning a ton of money in those years.

Betting on his own team to lose, and also bet against one of his team mates to score in a game he played in, so he could have influenced the outcome of that bet.

The stuff about the hypocrisy of football having betting sponsorship is a red herring, there's no moral judgement here about pros and cons of gambling, he can gamble on anything he likes - just not footy, they're the rules. Small price to pay for the massive benefits of the job.

Yeh but the rules on no betting on any football whatsoever are only fairly recent. When did he play never heard of him?
