Basically we need a goalkeeper who is a mind reader.
Not at all.
It's basics.
I'm not - and that article isn't - blaming Robles for every goal he concedes (which as the article correctly points out hasn't been loads).
But all you have to do is watch the last few goals we have conceded and arguably Robles should have done better for nearly every one.
Exhibit A - Mane in the derby. Defence at fault for letting Mane run through them, but Robles was all over the place.
Exhibit B - Origi in the derby. Same as above.
Exhibit C - United. Now this isn't to pin it on Robles as Williams made a rash, panic-influenced reaction and we paid for it. However, Robles wasn't getting there. He was totally flat footed and badly positioned. He also nearly always jumps off his line way too early from pens, making the oppo's mind up for them.
Exhibit D - Leicester. Albrighton's goal, he was all over the shop. Ridiculous for any keeper to get beaten from there. He was also pretty useless for Slimani's goal but would've been harsh to say he was at fault.
Exhibit E - Burnley. Dreadful for their goal. Defending in front of him was poor but the danger was gone yet he actually ran out and put himself in a position where he could only dive in. Stupid. He'd also been caught out of position earlier on when Barkley headed Keane's effort off the line. Watch it and beforehand Robles is so preoccupied trying to shove the Burnley guy near him he loses where he is.
He was also dreadful vs Spurs. But every player has a bad game now and then and it happens.
The examples above are basics though. Basic errors and things that can be rectified by simply having some composure in those situations - which he seems to lack and has lacked in the time he's been here.
He's actually a good shot-stopper and makes some excellent saves - especially when he's one-on-one.
But he doesn't really instil any confidence into the side and his lapses in concentration come too often for where we want to be heading.
He's a step in the right direction from the Howard of 2014-2016, and actually I think he's done better than most of us would have expected in the four years he has been here, but that's enough time to tell he ain't good enough.
