My store has over the last 2 days recruited 80 people on temp contracts. More to come.
The majority have been from other retailers who have gone under it would seem.
Two fellas turned up this morning to work at the docks and were told to go home as their jobs had gone. No warning, nothing and just showed up here and at least got some hours work.

This is going to hit people so hard.

The level of debt that will be incurred by subsidies given will be off the charts, the economy is going to take a huge hit.

with interest rates being this low if you got a few quid on the bank then it’s not going to grow, but allows the government to print money and then raise interest rates later.

Big supermarkets, hardware stores etc have been running all the small stores out of business for years, this will possibly finish the rest of them off unfortunately.

I work for Kingspan and all 14,500 employees have been told this week that we are all to take a 40% pay-cut due to the virus and "predicted" lock-downs/general downturn in orders.

Whilst this is going to be very difficult for myself (mortgage, bills, childcare costs etc) and many others in the business, it did make me think about all the other people out there who may have lost their job completely due to this and I suppose I should be grateful I still have a job and some (albeit reduced) money coming in.

Has the virus affected anyone else's jobs on here?

If you are going through anything similar or lost your job recently, please try to stay positive. It is awful right now and we are entering into uncharted territory but we will get through it, let's talk and help as many people out as possible.

I have lost mine from 5.00pm Monday. Despite the government news dont hold out any hope. Our Directors have emptied the accounts for themselves. A left hook will make me feel ok about it though. They have no idea what is coming their way.
