I have just had the oddest thing happen to me in work.

Basically my team leader was moving to another part of the department and as a result their job became available. So i applied for it and prepped for the [ast few days to get my answers down to a tee for the job and the teams in question.

I Didn't get the job.

but here is the odd things about the job. IT wasn't actually available. Apparently they changed their mind and last night officially the job became the one he was moving to which is pretty much a different type of team leader. But noone mentioned it and i proceeded to interview for the wrong job! Im in a little state of shock because if i had knew before hand i would have pretty much done a different interview as the roles are different in different areas.

My feedback was also i answered the questions too much and had key words but not in the right order?! the interviews are like exams, you have to score the highest rather than impressing them so if you dont say whats written down as the answer you are out of luck basically.

Jobs been and gone like so fair enough but is this just me or would i have had grounds to complain on? not arsed about it now like and personally had no interest in moving to the other area but to interview me for the wrong job but not tell me either, with the other candidates knowing before hand? I had no time to prepare for it!

Were there not others from your department applying for the same job that found themselves in the same position?

There was 3 that went for the one that was removed. two were told the day before and one withdrew on that basis. the rest were already applying for that job. So the only person who didnt have a clue was me lol surely that is a disadvantage?

In situations like this, i sometimes think " What would Peter Sutcliffe do?? "

I may be wrong here but I think that with government jobs its not just a case of "oh well" as it would be in banking for example (as if you complain you get pushed out asap).

I think if you're really put out then arent there union reps you can speak to or something similar? I think if you have a serious motive which is that you were given the wrong information regarding the position you were being interviewed for then;

A-- You may well end up getting a pay grade boost if you can show you could have done the job equally as well as the other person.

B-- May scare them into promoting you next time.

TBH though im from a different world and if I ever made a complaint like this id have the same treatment as Tom Cruise at the beginning of jerry mcguire.

NHS.......

I'd speak to HR about it, while in the office found out the home addresses of the people interviewing and re-enact the feature movie " Home Alone "

Nice of them to pass on the information mate, sounds like they don't really know their arse from their elbow.

Actually have a case there of them intentionally not informing you and thus putting you at a disadvantage.

Could you see yourself doing an equally as good job as the person who got thw job?

It seems they might have done a screw job anyway and not give the job to people from within the department in favour of staff in the other hospital. One guy who didnt get it has been there for years and still turned him down over external staff.

to be honest any argument they would have is that they provided one generic job description so i should have prepared myself from that. Except both jobs are different and work in different ways over different teams who do different jobs. So in no way can you compare them to each other as you would do different tasks in different areas and have different responsabilities.

I take it on the grounds of i didnt apply for that anyway so thats why im happy to let the whole thing pass. Its just that it would have been nice to know what im being interviewed for at some point! If i was arsed i could argue that point with them.

but anyway, starting to worry now, interview before this they wrote their own questions and they had nothing to do with the job, and noone got the job afterwards lol i think im going to be stuck where i am for the next 40 years, if its not one thing its another.
