Sadly has passed away at the age of 87 today.

Some of my very earliest tv football memories are with Jimmy and Trevor Brooking.

Sad news. Did so much for the game when it was needed. The man lived and breathed football. He WAS football back in the day.

He'd been suffering with Alzheimer's mate so not been in the public eye much if at all.

The great days of MOTD . Only two matches , both 0-0 . Dozing off during the news before it , waking up with the end credits playing , or Parkinson starting . Fantastic .

RIP to a great football presenter who didn't talk complete bubbles. Unlike today's pundits

I always remember the Palace v Chelsea cup game when it kicked off on the terrace and Jimmy was so outraged he was showing it in slo-mo about ten times to get the culprit caught

I don't think I appreciated just how knowledgeable he was till he was near the end of his broadcasting career. Makes most of today's wafflers look like what they are.

Memories:

"Are you watching Jimmy Hill" being sung from the terraces after he had been critical of a team on MOTD/The Big Match.

SAF calling him "a p...k" live on TV when he was doing punditry at a Man Utd game.

Endless in-depth analysis of a boring 0-0 draw on MOTD trying to convince the viewer that it was interesting game but it was the only one the cameras were at so they had no choice but to show it.

Him and Venables at each others throats before and after England games. Mildly entertaining stuff.

He was an eccentric but made a positive contribution to the game when he got the maximum wage abolished for players.

Oh and his goatee was the stuff of legend.
