I'm sure that while some think that it's harmless entertainment, there will be others of the opinion that it's poor quality and harmful.
I would usually consider myself the latter. However, I got a surprise last minute chance to go to a recording yesterday. My friend had ordered two tickets and been issued with five. I had nothing to do so I headed up the East Lancs.
It was fun, the staff were very accommodating and made it fun. It is what it is. They know that it is car crash TV. You are reminded beforehand that these are real people and their problems are real - although they do want you to react.
Of the six recordings we were a part of, two of them were funny but almost complete non-stories. The parties abused each other, everyone laughed and then they went their seperate ways.
Three more were serious. Classic lie detector stuff, but these people had children and families were on the line. One participant was extremely upset and when you see it for real it's actually very grim.
There was one more however, and it was a heartbreaker. I suspect it may not get to TV because of the content. The people involved seemed entirely respectable and were there because it was a means to getting a DNA test done affordably and it was an absolute whopper of a story. We were all close to tears.
It was good fun, if you get the oppo then maybe consider it, but it isn't all dead funny like you see on TV.
EDIT: oh and Kyle himself is a proper belter, entertaining but a tool. Oh and a smack head got sent to rehab.
