Fast approaching my mid 60's but I've always loved playing sports. Keeping fit has been a way of life for me ever since I was young kid. Still play the occasional game of 5 a-side & work out at the gym 3 to 4 times a week. What I find sad, is come January there'll be the usual new recruits at the gym trying to live up to their new year's resolution of losing weight. Very few of them last that long though, & that's the sad thing. 70% of losing weight is down to what you stick down your gob. Exercise is a great way to assist a healthy diet as it burns calories & fat along with toning & strengthening the muscles. Often overlooked too is the positive impact it has on your mental health, as exercise releases endorphins which are the body's feel-good hormone. My advice to anyone looking to embark on a weight loss scheme is don't expect too much too soon. See it as a long-term project rather than a quick fix. Don't give up on all the things that you enjoy such as booze, chocolate, cakes, pizza's etc, but make a concerted effort to cut back gradually over time. Build up your training very slowly with the aim of increasing it on a regular basis.
The biggest & best advice I can give to anyone, is that you must see sugar as being thine enemy. It's highly addictive & your body will store it as fat very quickly as it has very little nutritional value. It very much falls into the 'bad carbs' category.
