Jags to stay - bad news for Everton

Player Valuation: £6m
Its looking more likely that Jags will still be an everton player on Thursday - dont get me wrong, I'm a fan of his and wouldn't want to see him leave in normal circumstances but these aren't normal circumstances and i reckon a £15M plus fee to buy on a much needed striker would have been worth the sacrifice especially considering we are well covered at centre half with johnny, distin, yobo, rodders, duffy, hibbo, nev if needed. I'd be disappointed if the transfer window closes with no additions to help the lads up front

How is that bad news? Two bad mistakes and we should sell our best defender to the highest fee. Don't be daft. Anyway the 15m would go straight ot the bank and we would still get no one.

Keeping hold of our best players, a recent captain at that, is surely a good thing though? I know what you mean but fending of teams like Arsenal for our best players, is surely also a positive

If the thread was aimed towards our Nigerian contingent, I would be on board

I'm not a Nigerianist

Great username by le way

Surely not selling Jags, with the remaining time in the window being counted by the hours, is a good thing? Would be a bit of a challenge to find the right striker and then going through everything to get him.

Not the best for the squad to lose Jags now too I think.

I'm not doubting Jags as a defender or even bringing the 2 mistakes into it, I'm just saying that if we had the option of bringing in a quality striker at the expense of Jags then I think that its worth the loss as up front is in far more need of strenghtening at this point in time than centre back is

Jags staying is a good thing but us not getting any money and thus not signing anyone is a bad thing. It's more of a bad thing than Jags staying is a good thing.

I think that's the excellently named sexualchocolate's point.

Bit strange as i have always liked jags, and would us selling him make baines want to leave ,and show that we dont want to keep our best players

Thankfully Baines in an Evertonian and unlike Rooney not a blert. His family's here and I only think he'd ever leave if United came in and offered a very good deal.

Which may happen in the near future now Evra's getting on.

We were negotiating with Demba Ba earlier in the summer and offering decent money to him, so surely we have enough to bring at least one loan in without selling?

I'm with the sexy chocolately one. The current team has been underforming for over a year. Sticking with a misfiring and stale squad rather than changing things is a huge mistake.

As good a servant as the likes of Jags have been, we can't overlook the current problems.

i am sure that was on the basis of offloading Vaughan, The yak and yobo to free up wages

Baines is one of the best LB in Europe. I wouldn't blame him for one second if wanted to leave and play at the highest level in club football. It's very fortunate for us that he's loyal to an organisation unworthy of his talent.

Loans need loan fees. All our money now has gone to the bank it seems.

This is why I'm so disappointed Yobo hasn't gone. If he'd have gone I'd have expected at least a loan.

And Bilyaletdinov. FFS why won't someone buy him? At this rate I can see him staying here until his contract runs out and he goes back to Russia for free.

Agreed. This season (or the very least up until January) will be a nightmare without a change of personnel.
