Bainsey
Player Valuation: £20m
Phil Jagielka thoroughly enjoyed his first action as an Everton player.
The £4m signing from Sheffield United made his debut as a second half sub in the 1-1 friendly draw with Preston.
He had two headed opportunities to crown his bow with a goal, and admitted after the game that he had been blown away by the support of the travelling Toffees fans.
"Unfortunately I missed the game at the weekend but managed to get 45 minutes tonight," Jags exclusively told evertonTV.
"I enjoyed it. I have had to bide my time and I came on for the second 45. The boys did alright and it's nice to get a run-out."
Despite being foiled in his attempts to open his Everton scoring account, Jagielka was pleased with all aspects of his first game.
"Maybe I should have scored!" he conceded, "The first one was a little bit weak and the second one was a bit harder but it is pre-season and I have got time to perfect my heading ability."
Preston fielded an entirely different XI in the second half, whereas Everton made just two changes at the break.
"We were down to the bare bones and a lot of the boys had to put in long shifts. Thankfully for me it was only 45 minutes and I was as fresh as the Preston players," added Jagielka, who also praised the vocal travelling support.
"It started when we came out for the warm-up and it didn't stop until the 90th minute - I think there were more Evertonians there than Preston supporters which is a credit to the fans," he said.
