Jack Rodwell

Undecided on him to be fair. He was hailed as the next football genius , but has stalled in his progress due to injuries and maybe confidence.

A full season of football behind him will go a long way to show how important he will be to the future of Everton.

I can't believe how some people get on JR's back he is 20yrs old, and yes he did stall his progression because of injuries, this does not mean he still will not fulfill his potential. Remember Ossie he had a really bad knee injury put him back probably 2seasons but he came good by the age of 24, think on peeps jack is still maturing as a footballer and still learning the game he is not the finished article yet. A lot of you expect too much of him too soon, understandably in the sense we don't sign anyone so are desperate for Jack and Barkley to succeed and be world beaters.

For those who think he is not good enough for us, why is he still attracting the attention of the Man Utds of this world not good enough for us but he is for them?? Also now is not the time to be selling top english young talent we need to keep these lads give them a chance to develop without expecting too much, have patience my friends and i firmly believe we have a gem on our hands still.

I agree, let's judge him in a few years time. People who say that Fellaini is a much better player need to remember that he is 3 years older and that is a hell of a lot when you are that young.

As much as I like Rodwell, I'm praying he goes and we get 15-20m for him so we can get a winger and a striker. They will be worth far more to us in the long term than Rodwell and with Barkley coming through, Mikel, Fellaini, Cahill, and possibly Heitinga and Neville all available to play in the CM berth, we don't really need him. I do feel as though he's been found out a bit too. I reckon he's hit the glass ceiling as much as the club has at present and believe we need to sell him now. We don't have the luxury to hang on to him and see how things pan out.

I'd rather sell Heitinga or Billy or Ossie or even Arteta.

It's just so much fun to see potential happen and grow at a club. Especially with a talent like this, yeah? Consider your own development. How much did you change/improve as a person from age 18 to age 21 compared to your changes/development from age 28 to 31?

Totally agree. As much as it would be great to see him as a future Everton captain, our financial position and the need for cash is greater than the time we have for him to develop. Someone has to go from the first team to fund our transfers and at the moment he is not guaranteed a first team place, so we are not going to miss him as much as Jags or Baines. The only other viable options are Billy (no suitors at the moment), Felli (with Baines, our best player, but if he doesn't sign a contract, he has to go as we need a return on the investment put into him and can't afford to let him go for free) and Heitinga (seem to remember someone saying there is a clause in his contract saying we will only get the same price we paid, might be wrong though.)

That's not including the Yak and Yobo, but I am sure Moyes has already got plans for that money even with N'Zogbia gone.

I went to Birmingham on Saturday and must admit I was far more excited about Barkley than I have ever been about Rodwell, I really like Rodwell and don't think that if we got the ambitious 20mil we want for him that we'll be able to replace him with anybody anywhere near the same quality.

We know that we don't have any money and jartyjones you are probably right we will probably sell Jags, Rodwell, or Arteta on the last day of the window and the money will do nothing but satisfy the banks... as Everton fans we are expected to accept that... it's what we do!

However... Barkley looks class, don't expect him to get 5-10 goals or even play a great deal this year but he will give all Evertonians a sense of excitement whenever he does play... It's written all over his face and in his body language that he plays with pride and plays to do his best for Everton.... that means a hell of a lot more than potentially a player like Adam Johnson from Man City will achieve simply playing at Goodison to get his profile raised to get back into the City and England team.

I guess my point is I don't feel too worried about the current team and don't get me wrong I'd love to see Moyes spend £10mil on a goalscorer but I feel we have good balance and a strong squad ethic and thats worth all the money in the world.... Everton get more points through hardwork than moments of class than any other team in the world and that's why we love them.

The comparisons between Barkley and Rodwell are quite obvious. The monetary value, however, is nothing in the long run compared to what kind of icons they can become for our club.

If they play their cards right, Rodwell and Barkley might, wait for it, be the future Hibbert and Osman, respectively.

It's easier to get excited about Barkley because he's seemingly a more attack-minded player.

Fancy little dribbling runs naturally get our worms rigid quicker than nice sideways passes and good tackles.

As much as i think Ossie is an unbelievably underrated player, Id be extremely disappointed if Rodwell only went on to be 'an Osman'
With all the hype around him, how well he was considered for england coming through the ranks etc. we were hoping more for the next Gerrard than the next Osman
I realise you probably werent comparing them on that many levels, just saying like, if hes not going to be an absolute world beater, might be better to cash in...
