Their BTCC coverage is gash, yes I know we're talking about horses but horses are dry, cars are sweet

ITV are doing a brilliant job. The team is great, and they're not afraid to explain the "simpler" things about racing that some long timers take for granted. This is hugely important for broadening the appeal of racing, which is a big part of their remit.
They've got a podcast too, although new episodes are somewhat sporadic.

Top marks to the ITV team again, they made Glorious Goodwood so enjoyable even for non racing enthusiasts like Mrs. Khal

And coupled with the Galway festival, this must be the best racing week in the calendar.

Ted Walsh rules ;)

One thing I am wondering.

The “Social Stable” feature was the territory of Ollie Bell this week instead of the two Irish blokes who have been doing it all season.

One of them is Kevin Blake, an excellent contributor and they have just said on The Opening Show that “sadly, Kevin isn’t with us this week”.

Anyone know if he is ill?

I wouldn't worry too much. Blake's got his fingers in a lot of pies. He's on the Final Furlong podcast most weeks with his partner in crime Emmett Kennedy. It's essential listening if you are a race fan.

..I did the Galway festival for about 12 consecutive years. Highly recommended if you like the craic. It was only the last year that I managed to Galway Bay despite it only being a few hundred yards from where I stayed in Eyre Square as there were just too many bars on the walk down.

Great fun is racing in Ireland.

Indeed.

I have never been to Galway but have been to the Curragh, Leopardstown, Down Royal and Downpatrick quite a few times.

In 1977 we were in Bray, Co. Wicklow for a family wedding.

The wedding was on a Saturday so myself and my dad, a fanatical Lester fan, went to a Friday evening meeting over at the Curragh.

For some reason they were running the Irish 1000 Guineas at this Friday night meeting, it was won by Lady Capulet trained by the original maestro of Ballydoyle.

In the last race Lester was riding a hot favourite for Vincent O’Brien called Valinsky, at 1/3.

Vincent had another horse in the race, an outsider at 33/1......I think Liam Ward might have still been riding for O’Brien then and he was on this outsider.

Anyway, the outsider takes off in front and turning for home has a commanding lead and everything else is off the bridle.

Lester starts closing the gap but when he gets to the other horse’s withers, the latter kicks on again and wins in a canter.

The punters were going mad, screaming abuse at Lester for getting Valinsky beaten.

Valinsky, if I recall correctly, was a fighting bugger and often bit his rivals and was eventually warned off or required to wear a muzzle.

And that about all of note he ever achieved on the track.

Oh....the 33/1 winner?

His name was.....Alleged lol

It's on my list of things I need to do. Really fancy Galway or Punchestown Festivals
