It's no joke – Liverpool is now one of the safest cities to live in.After decades of gags about Scouse scallies, figures show that London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield all have more burglaries and car crimes per person.

Among big cities only Newcastle is safer, according to the UK Statistics Authority.
It reveals that people in South Yorkshire are 50% more likely to be burgled than Scousers.

And violent attacks are twice as common in London than they are on Merseyside.

Liverpool MP Steve Rotheram hailed the new figures which may end the TV image of Harry Enfield’s thieving, fighting three Scousers with their “Calm down, calm downâ€￾ catchphrase.

He said: “It’s time to recognise what’s actually happening here and not the nonsense peddled by comedians.â€￾
Just 1% of people were burgled on Merseyside in 2011-12.

The figure was 20% up in Manchester and London and 30% more in West Yorkshire.

London car crime was double the Liverpool figure and in Birmingham it was 50% higher

My cousin who came to study here from Manchester thought the same.

She felt more safer walking around Liverpool city centre than she did in her own.

My father doesn't live in Liverpool and I have been telling him about the crime situation for years and still doesn't believe me, would not agree with the Stats. :(

I'd like to draw your attention to the Lego Police Station, then and now...

CRIME IS ON THE UP LADS.

Liverpool feels as safe these days as I can ever remember.

Probably something to do with me being an old arse now going out around tea time and packing up around 11...

Crime has got so bad in the second one that a criminal is on the run in the actual picture, and generally running away from the busy station means you've escaped.

Even the chopper is out looking or marijuana farms in lofts.

I see they stuck to their morals though. The kopite flowers feature in both.

Considering everyone's beaked up to the eyeballs our city centre is very quiet.

You go to a lot of city centres and it's like the wild west after 1am.

Mushes with tops off and thier mates holding there henley t-shirts everywhere.

I've had more trouble in my snobby middle class home town on the Wirral than I've ever had in Liverpool, and I lived in Liverpool for 2 years.

Love the Lego by the way Muggins.

Hasnt manchester got twice the number of people than Liverpool. Not sticking up for them but I think we're outnumbered by mancs two to one that's most prob why there crime rate is higher

Because Manchester's better anyway ;D

No I think all those cities mentioned are completely different so completely different factors will lead to different crime and crime rates.
