I'm not like an avid collector, got a few, missus has a few, just think they are lovely artefacts, feel a bit more quality than the normal cases and some of the covers are fantastic. They generally cost a couple of quid more than the regular release (but can be 10-15 quid more in some cases) but some have very limited print runs/editions and their value climbs really quickly, there is definitely a market of collectors out there from what I've seen. One of the reasons I like them I think is that, a bit like LPs, the artwork is integral to the product, not interchangeable like a CD.

I've discovered a lot of you guys on here are seriously into movies so I was curious, anyone else like em? Think they're a rip-off? Anyone got a mahoosive collection?

Nah. Have the the odd one but they've generally been given to me as gifts.

If it a a special movie to me then I'd get the best version possible though.

Yeah that's my feeling, most of the few that I've got are some of my all time favourite films, Repo Man, Miller's Crossing, La Haine (arrived this morning, that got me thinking about them), Withnail & I. The ones that become the most valuable seem to be limited runs of blockbusters or Disney, or the odd cult classic, From Dusk Till Dawn seems to be a very valuable one weirdly. The missus bought Jungle Book and that sold out fast and is rising in value. One edition of Jaws will set you back about 100 quid!

I've never seen them before, only just got a Blu Ray player though a few months back and haven't really got a collection yet. Are they just metal cases?

I bought Metallica's Through The Never on Blu Ray but haven't got too watch it yet as my surround sound doesn't fit in my Blu Ray.

I think you might get the odd one that has some exclusive feature or something but generally they are the same disc/s just with metal casing. Quite a few have the Blu Ray and the DVD which I've found pretty useful as most of my friends don't have Blu Ray so I can lend them the DVD.

To be honest I was really sceptical about Blu Ray, I just thought it was the last attempt at physical product before films went entirely on-line, but a few years back our DVD player conked out so we went to pick up a new one, there was a good Sony Blu Ray that was cheaper than all of the DVD players weirdly. So we bought Star Trek and an animated film just to try it out and were really impressed at the difference. I was also impressed with the upscaling (approximating hi-def on DVDs), but it wasn't until we bought a couple of properly restored old films that we totally got the hi-def, North By North West, From Russia With Love and Once Upon A Time in The West are fantastic on Blu Ray. Word of warning though, not all releases work as hard on restorations/transfers as others so it's worth checking reviews, Escape From New York is shocking quality for example.

Got a few signed DVDs and box sets, my sister works as a script editor so I often ask her to get things signed for me, I've got a peep show signed by the writers, I'm not very good at keeping my DVDs in good condition as I'm quite lazy putting them back in the cases so usually end up replacing them from charity shops, I only tend to buy films I'll watch over and over. Good shout on Withnail and I, one of my favorites.
