It was 55 years ago today..that John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time

I was trying to find my way to Wentworth for the PGA down various country lanes a month or so ago when I happened upon the huge iron gates of Tittenhurst Park, home to John and Yoko from 1969 to 1971. I was beside myself with excitement (much more than when I went on the Magical Mystery Tour around Liverpool, for some reason).

And I can't ever drive through Woolton without thinking about that church fete. Sad to think that it ended up like this, 14 years later:

In between, though, they burnt the maps and changed the entire world.

Did you know that Paul McCartney died in a car crash in 1966, and since then he's been replaced by a body double? I know, mental huh? But there is actually a conspiracy theory that thinks that happened. They think there are lots of subtle cues in their records after that date and that his death was covered up because the Beatles were so important to UK tax revenues

As an example of their mentalness, the outfits worn on the famous Abbey Road cover apparently represent the preacher (Lennon), the undertaker in black (Starr), the dead man (McCartney), and the grave digger in jeans (Harrison)

You couldn't make it up

I saw a website dedicated to this ages ago and it was pages and pages of stuff all pointing to the fact that McCartney was a different guy to the original.

Mad.

In fairness somebody did indeed make it up

I would hope the half baked believers of this nonsense dont have jobs that involve meeting people.

It was all about the chemistry of the whole, there didn't appear to be a single 'big personality' Freddy Mercury was just larger than life. Closest for my money would be U2.

I think U2 are in a class of their own, because they truly write the songs together, whereas after the first couple albums, Paul and John and George wrote individually. Also name another band that has had the same exact lineup, never broken up and gotten back together, and released records on a regular basis for 30 years? I'll save you the trouble....there aren't any other ones.

Know every word to at least 25 of their songs, as do a lot of my mates. As a 17 year old 43 years later that shows the impact they had. Brilliant band.

Seems to be a lot of young girls walking around London with Beatles themed t-shirts this summer. Is this a fashion thing like that Ramones t-shirt craze?

Is right my friend. Unfortunately like with everything the light that burns brightest doesn't last, we could all name a few who would have not just broken ground but created chasms if they could have found such a combination. Imagine Hendrix composing and performing with the likes of Jim Morrison and Keith Moon as a 3 part band.
