Isle of Man TT - 3 dead in 1 day

RIP the riders. Takes some **** to attempt the TT, 32 riders have now lost their lives over the past decade - that is mental.

At what point does this event become more famous for people dying than for the actual race itself ?

Genuine miracle that in todays world an event like this still exists.

People do go into it knowing the risks, as you say people die at it almost every year.

They must be absolutely mental to do it though.

Was just thinking bout starting a thread about this. Seems to me that it has reached a tipping point, riders used to ride to 85-95% to give room for error, seems that a lot of people are hell bent in pushing to the limit nowadays.

Unless they want an IOM branch of Dignitas for middle aged men it should be scrapped in it's present form. Perhaps limit the engine size/power so they can only do something like 120mph?

it shouldn't be banned, no one is under any compunction to ride there, its all 100% voluntary and everyone knows the risks. Motorsport anywhere is dangerous, I race short circuits and plenty die doing that where it is relatively safe. Lets face it life is dangerous so lets not take the fun out of it.

Spot on.

They've done every thing that can to make the course as safe as it possibly can be.

It's down to individual choice whether to ride the course and what speed you ride it at.

Hence why is so popular right across Europe.

i disagree, i don't think any ever have raced there at anything other than 100%, if you race at 98% you've left 2% for someone to get in and win. It must be us racer's mentality; its a race!
Reducing speed/power won't make any difference, you can die in a crash at 40mph if you hit a wall. The TT gets the headlines for these deaths sadly but racers die on short circuits, there are plenty of other road races in Ireland and on the continent.
In all probability, the most dangerous aspect of my race weekends may well be driving there and back in a 30 year old truck.
