Is it the end for games consoles???

Game consoles will be around for a long time.

MS and Sony don't seem to be taking Onlive seriously atm.

Internet speeds, especially in the UK aren't fast enough yet.

No. As stated above, no way is the UK connectivity ready for this. Well ADSL speeds 100% - fibre, more than likely ready.

Nah, Onlive still have issues with content. They need to convince the game publishers that theirs is the way forward. It is a nice idea, and one that has legs, but nothing will beat having the hardware right there in front of you.

I know plenty of gamers who only play single player games, with offline consoles. They'd never want to use something like this.

There's always loads of controversy as well, when PC games implement DRM which means you have to be connected to the servers at all times to play.

It's not practical. It will get more practical, but not enough, if you ask me.

Consoles wont go away i suspect by the end of the next gen no console will have a disk drive and they'll have a "hybrid" sort of console that starts off with disk but with a huge H/D but being by the end it becomes H/D only given the amount of revisions the consoles go through it's more than possible and given the games industry's hatred of the second hand game market i'll wager good money on it going that way.

RFUS- spot on point, I can barely play any of my ps3 games online because of the size of the updates they require all the time, it doesn't pay to be an occasional ps3 player like me.

I don't think consoles will ever abandon discs, too many people play there consoles offline.

I believe I read that over half of Xbox360's sold are not connected to Live.

Ohh watch us matey becuase they wants the piece of the money pie and every time we trade games in those companies dont get their just rewards and this irks them.

I genuinly see this happening next time out also i see a lot more episodic gaming coming to if that happens i'll sign off from gaming

The games trade in business ruining the industry is a myth.

Most people trade in games for store credit so they can buy new games from the respective retailer. Without games trade in services people wouldn't be able to afford as many new games and the industry as a whole would suffer.

They're making money from trade-ins now by charging people for online modes in games.

Trading in games is a good thing anyway, most people trade in so that they can buy another game.

Far from a myth matey.

You have to get into the mind of the bean counters they see you going to gamestation and getting say a tenner for a game and buying a game from another company, the bean counters at company 1 want that money back, the ONLY people who make money from trade in's are GAME,gamestation etc no one else.

The myth is this GAME are such giving soles that they pay you to take that pesky game of your hands you don't want anymore sometimes for a fair price, other times for next to nothing but they will ALWAYS sell it at profit, the dev's get not a penny more from that game you've traded in and if you think they're going to sit idly by and do nothing next Gen then i suspect we're in for a shock, not at first for sure, people are resistant to change but sure as a chicken lays an egg the no disc console is on the way.

That and episodic gaming (my pet hate) will be rampant next gen out for sure, they've trialed it this gen so it'll make its presence more forceful next time.
