Everton has certainly surprised me before and i'm praying this year is no exception, it just seems like so many forces are working against us.
the only one of the remaining fixtures we won last season is against newcastle (though admittedly we destroyed them)
brum should be our easiest game, yet quality visiting teams have been denied there as of late. is mcfadden fit? i'd find his presence even more troubling
chelsea arsenal and villa, i don't think i need to go into that. while in recent years we've done alright against many top clubs, last year we took 4 points off liverpool, this year its 0, we won arsenal at home which we were destroyed in this year, matched our previous years result against chelsea.
our depth has improved tremendously imho atleast towards the middle of the season, but we're still a comparatively small squad and we can't withstand those kinds of injuries. everyone who scored more than 4 league goals last season is injured, plus pienaar, its a pretty awful situation.
so my broad breakdown of the situation is this: we have 5 games made difficult more by circumstance then by the teams we're playing, all of our best scorers save yak and osman are out, and i don't think either of them are really ready to carry the team forward and fill the void of those missing, fatigue is clearly setting in and as someone mentioned moyes does not have a good record in these late stages. our biggest positive is that these games may not be as valuable to the other teams depending on how things shape up, but even if chelsea and arsenal give some other players a chance, players are constantly competing for a starting spot and we'll still face tough opposition.
just because of brum's current run, i guess newcastle is our most likely win, i just pray god at that at that point it isn't too late to make an impact.
maybe everything will work out, had these fixtures appeared at the top of our form, i wouldn't have sweated them one bit, and things can turn around in a moment, thats the way football is, all i know is i don't expect to be sleeping all that well tonight.
