Is getting tough on criminals a kin to being a nazi?

The same thought crossed my mind.
Did we really need special new laws to stop criminals from being criminals.
What about the old Laws.
What was wrong with letting the police use these Laws we had... effectively
AND ( which may be one of the reasons behind the new laws )
Have a judicuary that passes AND enforces sentences that fit the crime

But Prisons, the ones we have, building new ones, keeping prisoners, cost a boat load of cash.
Criminals laugh at fines, community service, suspended sentences and the like.
So what you going to do.
If the government won't fund the prisons that the judges could send them to...IF they imposed the top end of the sentences that the current laws allow.
If the police didn't have one hand tied behind their back worring about infringing the rights of criminals ( amongst other things )

A circular arguement inside a circular arguement going around inside a roundy shaped thing, etc.

Which brings us back to Nazism / Facists.

These Laws would be just the same if they targeted Ab...sorry Indigenous people, Spurs supporters, Gays, ( can I say gay?? ) etc etc

Only the names are differnt on the document

And the whole point is that how long before MY name / Group, or YOUR / NAME / GROUP is added to the ' fill in undesirable flavour du jour '

Criminal Bike Gangs are wrong

Fasist Kristallnacht laws are wrong

So apply the old stand by of...

TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT.

rant over

Wee way off I'd say. I mean Stalin gained power by force, and then used that force to murder those groups he didn't like.

This guy does sound a complete tool, without doubt, but you'd show hope Australia would never go down that path.

A wee way off you say, maybe not rewind 70 yrs or so... see there Hansie ( bruce ) me old mate, that Adolph seems a complete tool, but he DID get voted in with a massive majority, he was in the army, he was also nice to Hindenburg, but we Germans are much too sensible to to put up with any of that old rubbish for too long.

I only skimmed the link, having lived here and seen it first hand day by day as it unfolded, so din't see a Stalin reff.

But the thin end of the wedge remains the thin end of the wedge, Adolph ( and Stalin for that matter ) then decided to first take a brown shirt hammer to knock it in, then took an even bigger SS hammer to wack the wedge in all the way and out the other side.

The fact is if the wedge is not there in the first place Adoph or Stalin or Newman can't knock it in.

The politicians here have also tried ( to do the right thing for the wrong reason ) to keep a sex offender in prison by decree, this signed by me on this day say that Joe bloggs stays in AFTER HIS SENTENCE IS UP. ( and so he should, but thats another story )

Only the courts sentence and free... not elected officials chasing public opinion, or else Moyes would be dangling from a gallows by order of the Lord Mayor of Manchester ( unless he is a city fan ).

see the point of the thin end of the wedge comment now?

No I can see your point, I just don't think we're at that stage yet. We have to remember that there is a whole back story behind Hitler, probably going as far back as the very formation of Germany back in the mid 1800's. They were a young nation that wanted to punch their weight on the world stage. That pricklyness was evident in the run up to WW1, and with that subsequent loss it dented the pride of a country with a strong military tradition. Couple that with the depression and the fact that many socialists regarded Jews and capitalism as interchangeable and you can see how Nazism was born in the country.

None of that really applies to Australia. Economically the country is doing incredibly well. There seems no lack of national pride. I just think this guy is one crackpot rather than anything systemic.

Hitler didn't cause WW1; ( so 1800 - 1914, while being relevant, are not relevant ) WW1 caused Hitler. The fact he was a canny nutter and plausable speaker did the rest, Hitler was the wedge and you can see him hammering it home in best Father Ted Style.

If pollo's don't take the wedge ( by force, Stalin ) or aren't handed it by virtue of a massive majority, Newman...or in Hitlers case a bit of both, they CAN'T use it to enact what amounts to arrest via...because I say so.

The point is with laws like these is it's bikey gangs now.

Q) Who will it be tomorrow....

A) probabley nobody, but...

repeats self; if the law is there it can be used if it aint it can't be

all it needs is somebody to decide they have a wedge....um, now where did I put that hammer

I'm done here * goes back to trying to eat tea.

Short version; Bad Law for the 'right-ish' reason is still Bad Law

Problem is the left/prison reform trust and all these clowns use Nazism as a tool to bash any "Right" wing ideas, same way the Govt use "Al Qaeda" as a justification to root through your emails/messages personal information. Scum like Mark Bridger deserve nothing more than a darkened tiny cell with **** all but a bed and toilet in it, he should be kept in their 23 hours a day and the remaining hour left for a canteen visit with all the prison population not just the other nonces. Scum like him shouldn't have the same human rights as me or you he threw that away the moment he took an innocent little girls one life away for his own perverted pleasure, yet apparently that makes you evil for dare suggesting pond life like him shouldn't be treated better ****ing idiots!
