Well, lets see. I have developed a hosted IP phone system, which will house lots and lots of people. To get it started we will be on this fibre service until we have the client base to move to a data center with a guaranteed service. Also, off site backups.

We sell shared fibre connections to multiple dwelling units, with multiple public IPs segmented to the respective companies VLAN.

The infrastructure guys came through on Thursday night and spray-painted the trenching marks for our fibre ducting at the house!!! I could be up and running at home by the end of March (ahh, the joys of being in the internet business!!!)

My god that's amazing. I'm giddy at the very thought of fibre.

Forgive me. I have struggled ( and it is a struggle) to educate myself and my daughter without an acceptable level of 1's and 0's appearing on my screen.

So, how come some days when I click on a site it comes up instantly, and other days it takes ages?

Remember @Bryan the fibre is only the transport. You have to make sure your ISP is up to knick to make sure you get great speeds.

Also, as a point, lots of ISP's prioritize their traffic to speedtest.net, to give you better speeds than you really actually get.

I've got a document written up by our infrastructure guys on routing and speedtests and why they are actually a crap barometer for the real-world quality of your internet (although they are great bragging rights). If anyone wants it, I can dig it up and send it in a PM.
