Do all of the rooms have a connection on the wall? If so it sounds like the owners have wired the house?

Does the router have one cable or multiple cable from it to various locations? it could be there maybe a switch in a media cabinet or in an attic were all of those connections in the wall go to.

Have you tried plugging the laptop directly into the router? See if that works?

Just a quick update: router has been reset and unplugged or whatever (house mate did it) and after some messing about it all seems to be working again, also told the landlady and she said if there is another problem she can get someone to come and have a look at it if need be. Thanks to all those who have tried to help me, im very greatful.
