Interest only mortgages

I do a lot of back office administration for these types of mortgages for a certain bank.

Im surprised it took this long for it to make the press to be fair.
 

Did a long time ago but with rates at historical lows now, I just started refinancing into a 20 year fixed rate.
 
Unfortunately it is a truism in the world of finance that not only are past returns NOT a guarantee of future performance, eventually you will get mean reversion and they will underperform for long periods. So typically when endowments are popular it is off the back of a strong run in stocks, bonds etc, and a period of underperformance is around the corner.

These cycles play out typically over a couple of decades. If you buy into something at the peak you're pretty much screwing yourself over. Buy into something at the right time and you can do very well out of it. The irony is that the "right" time is when no one else is buying them, and the wrong time is when everyone is doing it.
