Insane Christian Asks A Question...

Can you 'stamp it out' though? I used to know a girl who was into all the evangelical healing/tongues and all that. She fervantly believed that not only did God have the power to heal, but that he would discriminate on who to heal not on the justness of ones life and behaviours, but whether you went to church and prayed.

Now broadly speaking I don't think there is a God, but if there is one (and it is possible), I can't imagine some dude that created the entire universe is going to be so insecure as to require us to tell him he's great before he'll be nice to us. I mean God is supposed to be a benevolent kinda guy right? Sure he's not prone to bouts of narcicism.

But she was convinced about the benefits, so what can you do? For me as long as people keep themselves to themselves then they can do what they like. It's when they start trying to force others to do/think what they do that a problem exists. As Oscar Wilde once said, selfishness isn't doing what you want to do, it's making others do what you want to do.

Nope, it's impossible to stamp out radicalisation from religion due to the very fact it is a religion :P

Religion literally depends on a level of fervor to survive. I guess what I mean by "stamping it out" is to be aware that there are lunatic elements to their own religion, and keep that frame of mind when analysing other religions, so as to not label the entireity of Islam as extremist, for example.

No, very true, but the same goes for all walks of life. Most Labour voters will be ok, but you'll get some loonies on the fringes. Ditto Tories. Despite their delusion I dare say a lot of RS are ok as well, just as you'll get the odd whopper amongst our ranks. The danger comes when you apply the actions of a minority to a majority of people.

That's literally my point here ^^

That's why I'm not in favour of big government, because it becomes very easy for the actions of a few in government to be associated with the will of the majority, even though in our democratic process they get voted in courtesy of maybe 25% of the population actually voting for them. For instance the Tories polled around 10 million votes in the last election, which is just 16% of the population. Labour won in 2005 with even less (9.5 million).

the bible is a cracking yarn, whales, rapes, slaves, big boats, talking donkeys, getting blatted for wanking, trying to shag your dad by getting him pissed, angel rape, smitings, murder, burnings, war, romans, crucifiction, indiscriminate revenge killings because your granddad did something wrong, giants, cripples, pharoahs, leprosy. If only jesus hadn't messed it up by being a giant gaylord.

WOW!!

*legs it to waterstones*

I've read it, and there's some good stuff in there... but the whole deal just isn't for me.

I think the point at hand is that there are all kinds of idiots in the world. We just happened to find a Christian one this time.

Fair points.

I actually have you know! Did so at an early age.

I got given one during this sort of club thing where you get stamps for correctly reading out verses and such. Proper old school Christian after-school club.

Anyhoos, yeah, it was made out of that really, really think paper, and I read the entire thing in just under two weeks IIRC.

It is actually a fantastic book. However, that's not really what this video is about.

To save anyone the time viewing it, she looks slightly deranged and asks Atheists this question - "If God doesn't exist, then who wrote the bible?"

She's a classic example of a devout follower of a cult rather than a religion, as she clearly has no idea what Christianity is actually about, yet throws her life at it.

Fundamentalists or extremists exist in all religions and are often completely seperate from the religion itself. I guess the point of this post is that it opened my eyes to the fact that it isn't just Islamic-types who are whackos.

Clearly not evil ;) But I actually think true Christians should be wary of people like this and stamping it out as it reflects badly on their religion overall.

It would be a good idea to know as much about something as possible if you profess to believe in it. Not saying that you have to know it all and have it ready to go on the tip of your tongue but a basic understanding of why you believe what you believe.

The good news is that the unlike the Islamic whackos, the Christian whackos aren't trying to kill anyone.
