right chaps when the new season starts, myself n the missus are going to be getting down to a home game and we are wanting to stay over and maybe go and see a show or a band or just a good night out.

So i need help as i have never
- travelled by train before. I always come by car and go home after the match normally.
- stayed over night
- been out for a night in liverpool

so can anyone suggest any good, not too expensive hotels that can be useful both for getting to the game and also not too far away from the echo arena or city centre.

also what is the best way to get from lime street to the ground.

Can anyone suggest any good shows or anything that will be a good night out?

cheers if you can help, doing logistics early to plan.

When I stayed in Liverpool I crashed at the Lord Nelson Hotel (a bit spenno) and the YHA on Albert Docks (pretty cheap and walking distance to Liverpool One).

ok cheers i will check them out, got the missus with me so need something half decent.

Train into lime street. Go in the Aldelphi if it's just for one night- why not! Get the something bus from near that big silly car park in the city centre (the orange and purple one). Then I'll meet you both out on Concert Square and I'll bring you trays of sambuca from Modo's then we'll go BaaBaa for some more filth and then to Crazy House where you can mosh, bop and skank all in one club ffs.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheap but nice option is the Blackburne arms in the georgian quarter. Your misses will like the area and your 2 mins walk to th city centre. good food and atmosphere in the pub and the rooms are nice too. Rossy who does our match announcing goes in there after the games usually.

You can get a taxi from the city centre to Goodison for a fiver or get the 21/20/19 buses from the main bus depot which you cant miss and they take five mins. Just follow the flow of blue.

If you can, go to a pub called the Ship & Mitre. It's a bit out the way but deffo the best pub ever. They've got a choice of about 100 beers (no exaggeration) from all over the world. The William Gladstone (previously the Hog's Head) also does a 2 meals for £7 daytime deal if you want to eat out before the match as well as after.

If you want a classy, smart night out compared to a mental one then the docks are the place to be. They basically surround the Echo Arena and are a bit too quiet/expensive for all the young hooligans.

FFS Nik, as if you can't spell -

Baa Bar*
and
KrazyHouse* (K1 = metal, k2 = 80's k3= cheesy pop)

avoid Fudge like the plague (if it still exists, next door to the Kray)

I hate the fact that on nearly every night out in Liverpool I end up in Baa Baa, it's sh*te!
