Reading fans’ forums about the current state of Everton makes me really excited about my first visit to Goodison Park ever in my whole life this Saturday for the Wolves game. However, there is no turning back now, as the match tickets have been purchased, the flight has been booked and paid for, and the hotel is awaiting our arrival with open arms.

I expect the Z Cars moment before the game will make the whole trip worthwhile, so it’ll be an unforgettable experience no matter what happens on the pitch.

I am flying in from Denmark with a good mate (who is a Wolves supporter) to watch the game. We agreed years ago to do this as soon as Everton and Wolverhampton were in the same league again. Fortunately it’s the Premier League.

Seeing as the usual questions about which pubs to visit before and after the game (besides the Lisbon apparently…) have been discussed in the voting thread on best pubs, I would like to ask you if any of these pubs serve any sort of local brew? And do any of them like to play hard rock/heavy metal? Just to have something to go by when choosing.

Oh, and is England a cash country or a credit card country? In Denmark people don’t use cash that often any more, but I’ve heard they do almost everywhere else.

My background if anyone’s interested:
I’ve been an Everton fan since the middle of the 1980’s I think, when I was a small chap. Back then, Danish national telly broadcast one English first division match every Saturday afternoon during the season. It was great. I watched teams like Wolves and Watford and Ipswich running around in the midwinter mud kicking and rushing and tackling and stuff.

I really liked Gary Lineker, and Everton were of course completely ace back then. Maybe that’s why it all started. Lineker soon left Everton, but Everton never left me. Since the age of internet I’ve been following the club quite closely. And now I am coming over to experience the restricted view of Goodison. I have to. What if they end up moving, before I get there? Disastrous…

Perhaps in hindsight not the best game to open your account to. Hope you enjoyed the day bar the result though.
No, you are right. But then, not easy to find a good game at all these days. Had I gone the Man City match I would have been too scared to even look, but that turned out to be a much better effort at least. Besides, it had to be this one, as the bloke I went to see it with has been a big Wolves fan since the days of Steve Bull.

But yes, thanks. Apart from all the depressing football stuff we had a great day. Goodison itself an experience, we had a very narrow view of the pitch from the main stand. We went to the Winslow, the Brick, and the Royal Oak before the match to soak up the atmosphere and met some friendly folks. Saw the statue of Dixie and visited both Everton One and Two, and then went to the Swan Inn Saturday night. Didn't make it to the Lisbon, although I expect we will survive.

Couldn't understand a word of that scouse dialect though, even though I am usually pretty decent at speaking and understanding English. A young woman at a KFC tried to tell me like five times that they were closing in half an hour. My mate had to translate. Our hotel manager I could understand, and I believe he claimed that Everton hadn't won anything, so he suggested we took the tour at Anfield to see all their trophees. Nice man, but still...

All in all, it was awesome, and I hope to come back again. Perhaps next time to witness some good School of Science-style football.
