The new law on taking your child on holiday in half term, its to expensive in half-term and prices will not even rocket even more now for flights and hotels. Is two weeks a year going to damage the child education?

Cheers for the link, I understand now. Pretty poor in that it allows travel agents to up their prices even more.

Wonder if it's cheaper to pay the fine for not sending your kids to school and going on the cheaper flight?

It's a shame because the travel agents will lose out even more as well, people can't afford to take them during peak times so basically won't be able to take them at all. Everyone of us could put travel agents out of business. Nobody book a holiday for 2 years

The fine is rumoured to be around £60 pound each parent and also face possible court action which can lead to a criminal record.

It's a tricky one like. I agree in principal that kids shouldn't be dragged out of school for holidays in some ways, that's what half terms are for, but sympathise totally with the cost during half terms. Surely if you were a travel agent you'd lower your prices with specials to get even more on board now, especially if others raise there's.

It should also be made law then that holiday prices are not altered dependant on time. Get it on a first come first served basis.

If you're really that upset, how about talking to your children's school about what exactly defines the allowed for circumstances and how they feel this will pan out in reality. Chasing up every parent who takes a couple of extra days at either end of a half term will put a huge workload onto EWO's and parents could easily just say their children were sick. Also, whatever reason is given for wanting the additional leave, no one will actually check to see if that actually happens. In other words, people will lie and no one will bother to check.

No doubt many people moaning about this are the same people who are so concerned about the impact on their children's education when teachers go on a days strike (not intended as a dig at the OP, just an observation).

It will means as normal in this country you will get ripped off , flight taxes ect already make it an expensive thing for familys ,i was lucky this year mine were a bit older and had finished there exams, just going two days later and it was £150 more each. Only thing i can think is if schools could. Take there school terms at diffrent times in diffrent cities would stop travel companys ripping you of

The proposal for schools to set their own term (and holiday) dates has already caused a huge fuss. If you've got kids in different schools, there's potential there to cause lots of inconvenience to parents.
