disgusted, but not suprised when my mrs told ma bout this yesterday.
The owners of this bar in Cov refused entry to the pall bearers of a dead soldier whose funeral was at the Cathedral. All they wanted was tea and coffee.

I was in there eating luch once, nipped outside to take a phone call and then they wouldnt let me back in, despite my half eaten lunch and my belongings being inside.

Military people are being turned away from places all over the shop.

I have my own ideas as to why that is.

It's a disgrace.

I'd just swerve Cov full stop. Place is like a concrete jungle and it's reflected in the mentality of the people there.

Ha I wrote a similar bashing of Coventry but then I realised Leonard was from there so I deleted it.

KAPOW!

Might as well now. It's on a par with being the worst town I've ever visited other than Redcar. Much worse than Luton and even Middlesboro.

Middlesbrough. Jesus, that's a place and a half.

Had some top, top nights out at warehouse parties in Luton back in the days, and the Exodus free festival used to be amazing. Prefer it to Cov or Middlesbrough for sure.

Sorry Leonard. Sure Cov's got some sound enough people, just like anywhere. The first thing I think of when some one mentions it is smack, mind. Never a good sign.

Ha those days are long gone. We have a Liquid now which is mediocre at best and that's only if you avoid getting your head kicked. I swerve it at the best of times.

Redcar is where my mum's side come from. It's a smaller, more smack filled Middlesboro. Horrible place. Still like going there for some reason.

Tbf to Coventry I've only been around it during the day once and wasn't impressed. But I went out to a club called Kasbah and had a really good night so swings and roundabouts.

steady, I have no problem with anyone dissing Coventry - it is souless and concrete (thanks to the germans and Winston Churchill for that one) but unless you have met everyone from Coventry you cant comment on their mentality.

Yeah, sorry for that one mate. Bit OTT. I did try and qualify it a bit in my next post.

No apology need lad, everyone is entitled to an opinion. this is a free country. :)
On the people of Cov, I wasnt born there but have lived there for a long time - About 20% of the citys population have joined the FB group objecting to the bar owners actions in 24 hrs so thats a pretty good reflection on their mentality to me.

Why? Some jarg anti-war protest or something?

No, it's usually turned out to be a case of a lot of companies having a quite understandable policy that they don't serve alcohol to people in uniform, be they soldiers, police, paramedics or whatever. It's occasionally been enforced a bit over-zealously by staff not showing common sense, as in this instance. I'd fully expect to hear this in their apology, when it's forthcoming.

Nothing to do with trying to not offend anyone, but when it's soldiers people get all indignant about it and start blaming muslims, saying the country's going to the dogs and stupid **** like that.

They weren't trying to buy alcohol though. They were turned away, not refused service of alcohol, so this argument is moot.

It's a f*cking disgrace.

If that's the case, then yeah, it is.

I doubt the full story is in that article though. There's usually more than meets the eye in these cases.
