An experienced holding midfielder like Schweinsteiger!
Or an attacking, versatile full back who can pass a ball well like Lahm!

Or a young attacking midfield player who can score unbelievable goals like Rodriguez!

If only English fans had a more realistic perception of how good our players are.

Don't be stupid Bruce.

Those players are easily good enough if only Hoddle, Keegan, Eriksson, McClaren, Capello, Hodgson would pick the right team instead of not playing young players like Jeffers, Pennant, Manciene, Wilshere, Cleverley, Sterling, Shaw who would obviously be miles better than the players picked instead.

I mean if our 'golden generation' could only ever reach the quarter finals, it's hard to see what people expect of the current crop really. You sensed maybe a year ago there was a realistic expectation of how good our current squad are, but as the tournament has loomed closer and a few younger players have emerged you could sense the hype machine whirring into overdrive again.

That's the thing mate. We have.

But people seem to think we don't.

I seem to keep seeing people disappointed with the World Cup. Bloody hell, did they we think we were going to win it?! Never a chance in hell.

The amount of people who said 'we're not going to win the world cup, so I'd just be happy if we just played some new lads instead of cole terry lampard etc, again and gave them a bit of experience before 2016 and 18 even if we don't do that well' and then it turned out they weren't actually happy when that happened.

And it's hilarious how often people name whole lists of 18 year olds who should have played instead. Look back two tournaments and the same players who aren't good enough for England now (Cleverley, Jones, Smalling etc.) were all over the exact same lists. As were the likes of Sam Hutchinson who have disappeared without trace.

I don't really want to hate England but I get a sick satisfaction whenever they lose now just because I hate their fans so so much.

I'm bored of people being cynical about England. It's all so easy to do.

Whose being cynical? They haven't achieved anything of note for an awfully long time. Not just talking of tournament play either. That 5-1 defeat of Germany for instance is probably the last top quality performance where you could understand the hype such a performance generated. We haven't had a result like that in a very long time. Get some results and/or performances as England (rather than playing well individually for their clubs), and then we can start talking.
