If Jose Mourinho had been born in Tennessee...

Good call, this. Let Kliff klimb the ladder, and we'll see. Don't know if he's as smooth on TV as Martinez, but who is? Both very innovative and offense minded. Red Raiders also not known for their juggernaut defense, he says nervously.

This is fun. Who is the American Wenger? (mind explodes)
Belichick. Successful and insufferable

Apologies, I really didn't know what it meant, the rotation bit......

No need to apologize - I didn't figure you really wanted to understand :)

The SEC is split into West and East divisions. Each school plays a total of eight conference games each year, consisting of the other six teams in its division, one school from the other division on a rotating basis, and one school from the other division that it plays each year (aka permanent rival).

South Carolina used to be Arkansas' permanent rival and played each year. It's changed starting this year. So now South Carolina and Spurrier are one of the "rotating basis" teams for Arkansas, my team/Alma Mater. We'll play each other once every 5 years.

......and now I understand.......thank you

Woke up this morning, went back to this thread, and couldn't get Bob Knight and Brian Clough off my mind. Both undeniably brilliant, and both undeniably flawed. Both known for "a fanatical devotion" from their admirers. In watching The Damned United, I couldn't help thinking about the parallels, the sad end that enveloped Knight at Indiana, as well as the deep bitterness of that relationship that continues to this day. Clough and Knight both brought it upon themselves. Neither understood the first thing about the concept of compromise.

I know I'm crossing sports here, but if you love to watch the tika-taka game at its best, you'd have loved the Indiana motion offense. In addition, his defense was even more important. No zonal marking, just helping out and biting the numbers off the opposition. Total devotion and floor burns. Knight both abused and loved his players, and the ones who stayed are completely devoted to him to this day.

Both these quotes are from from Wiki:

Charismatic, outspoken and often controversial, Clough is considered one of the great managers of the English game. His achievements with Derby and Forest, two struggling provincial clubs with little prior history of success, are rated amongst the greatest in football history.[1] His teams were also noted for playing attractive football and for their good sportsmanship.

Knight was one of college basketball's most successful and innovative coaches, having perfected and popularized the motion offense. He has also been praised for running clean programs (none of his teams were ever sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting violations) and graduating most of his players. However, Knight has also attracted controversy; he famously threw a chair across the court during a game, was once arrested for assault, and regularly displayed a combative nature during encounters with members of the press.[3] Knight remains "the object of near fanatical devotion" from his former players and Indiana fans.

Discuss, if you feel the need. There are maybe a couple dozen people in the world who are familiar with both - all I know of Clough is what I have seen and read. I'll take the Knight questions, if someone else wants to field the Clough questions. I was there for the first championship and the perfect season at IU.
