if chelsea win the fa cup and they and us both stay in our current positions, does that mean we can qualify for europe?

No we don't, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle would.

we would need to come in 6th place and Chelsea in the top 5. Since Liverpool already have a place for winning the carling cup, if the team who wins the FA cup is already in Europe then it goes to the Runners up, and if they already in europe it will go to the next best team in the premier league (6th).

Europe League qualification only goes to the Runner-Up of the FA Cup if the Winner has already qualified for the Champions League. So if Liverpool win the FA Cup and we somehow overtake Chelsea, then Chelsea don't qualify for Europe at all.

We can still qualify if we finish 7th, but Liverpool need to win the FA Cup and we would need to finish as the team with the best disciplinary record, thus meaning we need to incur less than 4.2 yellow cards from our remaining games.

If Barkley plays though we've had it.

Not sure I get this. Swansea are currently top of the fair play league and four other teams above us who wont qualify for Europe via another route. Even then, it's 3 names out of hat from right across Europe isn't it. Bound to be Fulham as usual.

Shame though - I wonder whether the start of our Prem season would have been any better than normal by having to start playing Europa games in July whilst most of our key players were at the Euros!
