Identity cards for Europe

Does anyone remember back in the late 70’s as Everton qualified for Europe, the club’s promotion’s manager Ralph Williams, told fans that they had to be equipped with an identity card, with a photo, to travel to Europe with Everton?

I went to Feyenoord in 1979 but don't recall needing an ID card.

I seem to recollect getting one before the trip to Dukla Praha

Think it might have been a travel club thing,
You had to have a pass to travel on Everton's Blue streak train
Might be linked to that?

Yeah, I was thinking it might have been required for travel that was organised via the club.
