Ian Wright talking about his early years and what it meant to be a footballer, i've just watched it all and it confirms my impression he's a top bloke, good watch!
An agent in London had a sign quoting an article & his pretty nasty abuse to a thalidomide linesman saying 'if I can get him an MBE after this imagine what I could do for you' .
Top striker , no saint off the field (who is ?) but a top class finisher
He was honestly one of the worst tits I've ever been aware of when he hosted that Channel 5 showbiz gossip show a couple of years ago. I watched it most days just to enjoy fuming for an hour.
Always remember his battles with Rudolf the red nosed goalkeeper. And although a bit of a character on and off the pitch was written off as a footballer and fought his way back, to eventually lead the most caps for a black England international (IIRC) at the time. Hell of a finisher, and would still be Arsenal top scorer if not for a certain pacy french winger that turned out to be the surprise striker of the premiership.
Say what ya like about him but i always enjoyed watching him play. Every goal he scored he looked made up with a massive smile on his face, unlike narky posers like Henry, Anelka etc. Was a top player who scored tons of brilliant goals.
*edit ... just watched it, great video, show's how much it all meant to him. Thanks for sharing mate
He's a horrible, arrogant yard-dog.
Years ago at one of his book signings I photographed him for a newspaper I was working for. Anyone who bought his book was allowed one photo with him before they were ushered away. He had a face like a smacked arse throughout. He never smiled for the photos or made conversation with any of the many Arsenal fans who were buying his book. My newspaper was running an article on him - to publicise his book - and he allowed me to take one photo before declaring 'that's enough'. But it was his arrogant attitude to his own fans, mostly kids who looked up to him, that riled me. He was/is an ungrateful, classless piece of work.
