I was a tad lucky there.....

When a bolt of lightning struck my plane as I was flying back from Miami.

Planes are probably built to withstand that - I don't know, but it was fun and scary at the same time.

Climbing in the Langdales years ago when I fell off.

First safety didn't take my weight and came out and I hadn't been overly happy about the previous one so half expected to end up with broken bones, but it held. I decided lady luck was trying to tell me something so we walked back down to the pub and had a couple of beers instead.

Brakes failed on the highway at 80 mph.

Behind an 18-wheeler.

Coasted off the highway and finally pulled it to a stop in a gas station.

Or maybe - in rush hour traffic on a highway my entire front passenger side wheel came off at about 50 mph. Didn't hit anyone and I was able to safely guide to the side of the road.

Those were good.

Maintain your car better perhaps?

Neither one was my car.

Both were when I was a kid, parents cars. Worst I've had happen in a car I've owned was have a tire shred...admittedly very poorly maintained my first car, but it was a Toyota and hence deserved it.
Ha.. was a joke..

I had a suspension strut collapse on a motorway at 80 miles an hour in a beat up Fiat Punto years a go.. That was a trouser browning moment.

I could see the flyover across the motorway junction I was approaching had a queue forming so I changed tack taking the slightly longer route of the next junction. Those joining the queue became embroiled in a police situation for a further 10 hrs as some loon was threatening to jump off the flyover.

Very jammy that day.

Car in the right hand lane on a motorway blew a tire at about 90 mph and cut diagonally across all the remaining lanes out of control, before crashing into the bank. He wasn't more than a few feet from smashing into us, luckily he went just in front of us. Me and my old man [Poor language removed] ourselves, then looked at each other then burst out laughing for some reason.

Funnily enough, I was in a car crash the other day. Swerved onto the otherside of the road on a little country lane and if anything was coming it was curtains for us.

Also when I was about 10 swimming in the sea and I thought I was going to drown. The most haunting moment of my life. Looking back on it, it was probably up to my knees like.
