Serious talent there mate, nice one for the link. You personally inspired me to buy some macro extension tubes today, so I'll let you know the results. I know it won't be all that but if I get the hang of it then I'll invest in a decent macro lens at some point.

Am I best using the extension tubes with my prime lens or with my zoom?

They can be used on most any lens - but your maximum quality comes from a prime lens - always m8.
