I love Paxman...

Paxman has borrowed the following quote in the past: the relationship between journalists and politicians should be similar to that of dogs and lampposts.

It was somewhat tongue in cheek, but it highlights his overall sense of duty. He considers his role to be that of an interrogator of sense and competence, and exalts the importance of the role. He doesn't just lambast people. In the main he's a considered and attentive interviewer. However, he doesn't tolerate spin or avoidance and will ridicule people for attempting it. Consequently, only idiots or the (unfortunately in her case) terribly under-prepared attempt to feed him sh*t, generally making sure that the majority of his interviews are about as open, erudite and informed as one can find in British politics. Shame so many people only skim his most popular youtube clips to form their opinions.

Rep this man

I just dislike the idea that the BBC are essentially paying a guy just to insult politicians. I can do that for free, you know? What he should be doing, is getting the politicians to reveal something about their policies so that the viewers can from an opinion on them and just shouting at them while they sit there silent refusing to speak more than one sentence at a time, doesn't do that. You've got to draw them out, let them hang themselves, but Paxman doesn't do that because he's more concerned with feeding the myth of Paxman the uncompromising take no bull**** guy then in actually trying to do his job properly. The smug arrogant public schooled [Poor language removed].

Where exactly does he insult anyone in that interview? He's asking for a yes or no answer in order to corner them.

Just because he's a whopper doesn't mean he doesn't do a good job of showing politicians up for what they are.
