'Social' media is something which has been bothering me for a while. How can something called 'social' media actually be so unsociable?

Every cafe you go into, every train you're on, every single bus, even every queue, is full of mindless scrolling and searching, people seem absolutely petrified that they might be missing out on something. This was highlighted this morning when I sat in a Costa for half hour. 20 people in there, absolutely all of them ignoring the people they were with, all in the name of 'social' media. I could've stood up in that cafe and dropped my pants and nobody would have noticed.

The art of conversation seems to be dying, and I find it sad. Sure, these phones have their uses and sure they're entertaining, but imagine the next generation who've never known a world without the smartphone.

Semi rant over, I may well be alone in this.

With you on this.
We are breeding a future full of ignorant halfwits who judge you by your latest handset.

They'd all have read about it and seen it on twitter before you'd got 'em back up.

Me thinks someone only has 2 followers, his wife and her mum ?

I've got a mate who whenever I see he's just on his phone texting or on Twitter or some sh*t. You'll be having a conversation with him and then it'll just stop dead. Then he'll try and do both at once and it'll just be "Errr, whatcha call, erm, what was I saying?" for about 2 minutes before he stops. Got a bit fed up of it tbh.

One thing I hate more than anything with this kind of thing, is when you're having a conversation with someone, then their phone rings and without any notice they answer the phone and start talking to them. Makes you look like a right [Poor language removed] if you're in public.

I don't want a smartphone, I really don't want a cell. Society, friends and family are pressuring me into getting one. Is there any support groups out there for people like me? And Hi everyone

What I love about them are the commercials where you're made to think if you don't have the latest one you're the scum of the Earth and not fit for shagging. They love when they can market something to men as if they're women.

Don't get this thread.

I do, and I think he's right. A large % of people have no idea how to communicate outside of a facebook chat screen and have become ignorant tits when in a real life social setting. Smart phones have their place, as does social media and technology in general, unfortunately it's also turned a huge amount of people into knobheads incapable of concentrating on a face to face conversation for more than 2 minutes before feeling the need to check in or tweet about where they are and who they're with.

This is a sound point, well made with no childish point scoring.

What have you done with Bungle?????
