Huge Disappointment

Felt exactly the same about all these - took an age before I began to believe. With maybe the exception of Trevor Steven who always looked the business to me. We'd been served up such rubbish for so long that I was unconvinced for ages.

Actually, you're right about tricky Trev - his class was apparent as a 17 year old at Burnley. And I always loved Inchie - I just wasn't sure that he'd be an integral part of a trophy-winning side.

But a so-called "Magnificent Seven" that featured the aforementioned Alan Biley along with Mike Walsh, Mick Ferguson and Alan Ainscow didn't quite live up to its billing, did it? (and talking of Kendall's M7, how disappointing was Mickey Thomas? His attitude more than his form. Only club you'd play for for nothing? Don't make me laugh, you Welsh forger). At least Jim Arnold and, more to the point, Big Nev made a mark.

In your time watching the blues, which was your first Everton player that we signed didn't live up to his potential, mine was Joe Harper from Aberdeen, thought for the £180,000 we paid for him he was poor, he came with a big reputation too

Same as you with Joe Harper. My eldest brother used to take me to the game in the early seventies and we always had to pick up one of his mates who was always unshaven, stank of the night befores ale, and smoked 20 Benson and Hedges per match, but still looked fresher than Joe Harper!

Tony Cottee

Norman Whiteside (injuries were the problem)

Stuart McCall (because he wasn't Trevor Steven class)

Gary Lineker (for leaving so soon and then not returning when done with Barca)

Peter Beagrie
