Sure, I've had people in my family that have used welfare and they're my family so I'm not going to sit here and judge them for doing so. All I'm saying that my personal philosophy is that charity from strangers should be the very last resort, and you and your family should be the ones to go to first of all.

If my girl was out of work for instance I'd rather she came to me for help than went on the dole. That's just a personal thing though, I just think however that folks taking a bit more responsibility for their own lives and their own actions would be no bad thing.

I tried to get your thoughts and feelings regarding sections of the population in the food threads, until you shouted me down and accused me of ramping up some effort to introduce eugenics to the topic.

So, once again while we are here, what is your take on the intellectual capacity of the nation at large?

I've no take on the intellectual capacity of the country as a whole. As with any large group of people there will be some smart folks, some not so smart folks and a whole bunch in the middle.

The intellectual capacity of the country?

X-Factor
Britains Got Talent
Voting in a government full of Old Etonians

...greater than an amoeba, less than a Golden Retriever.

And the lines that divide? Are the hyper obese also a bit thick? Does the dole attract a certain group of plebs? Was it essential for the country to update its industry or face being left behind and then consumed by overseas animals?
Education
Health
Social reform
Pensions

Cut it anyway you fancy, where do we start Bruce?

That's probably half the problem isn't it? Our leaders are full of this kind of hubris that they believe they even can control society and can even possibly know what is best for the citizens within it. This isn't Sim City we're playing here, society is far too complex to be controlled from the centre like the old Greek Gods looking down on us all, moving the odd chess piece here and there.

Well, start in the margins where its safe. Anarchy didn't work, not in August or in Toxteth/Brixton.

Here's another for you Bruce if you fancy...

Allegedly, once upon a time the strongest survived, heaviest. fastest, quickest would outperform (kill) its rival and succeed.
Then, allegedly civilisation happened.
And so the worship of intelligence and the capacity to think was founded.

Is humankind better off with a chosen few wielding the gift of IQ and thought over those that have stayed in the primeval swamps tugging themselves dry to Jeremy Kyle and trying to lick their own bum hole when it is self-moistened by another advert for Iceland?

I'm not advocating anarchy. Law and order are important.

No, that's Plato'esq thinking. This might make some good reading.

I like Iceland adverts, not books.
Some enlightened sorts I overheard whilst I was digging a ditch were discussing the rewards for those capable of achieving and who actually see it through and go about making their life better. They mentioned that once upon a time the strongest survived and the biggest and meanest lived off the small and the meek.
In the civilized world of today are the strong now those with brains enough to get educated and savvy enough to exploit those that are for want of a better phrase 'a bit dumb'.
